At the world premiere in Venice, the film 'Dune' was accompanied by an eight-minute standing ovation
It wasn't only the audience who enthusiastically welcomed the long-awaited science fiction film at the Venice International Film Festival. Director Chloe Zhao broke through to director Denis Villeneuve to give him a warm hug and congratulate him
The world premiere of the film ‘Dune,’ writes the Hollywood Reporter, was followed on Friday night at the Venice International Film Festival by an eight-minute standing ovation from the audience.
The general impression of the long-awaited sci-fi epic was summed up by director Chloe Zhao, who exclaimed 'fantastic' and hugged director Denis Villeneuve.
Director Zhao, who is a member of the festival’s competition jury this year, made her way through the seat rows of Sala Grande after the screening to congratulate colleague Villeneuve.
Just before 7 pm, as the Venetian sun was setting over the horizon, Villeneuve appeared on the red carpet with his team.
Oscar Isaac, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Javier Bardem, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, Dave Bautista, Stellan Skarsgård, and Chen Chang appeared in front of the enthusiastic crowd of young Italians from Generation Z that surrounded the cinema, and the young Chalamet attracted the most screams. He walked the red carpet arm in arm with director Villeneuve.
The usual capacity of the 1,200-seat Sala Grande was halved due to precautions around Covid, and the ones who were lucky enough to get one of the extremely scarce tickets for the screening were given an unusually spacious and comfortable premiere experience.
They remained immersed in Villeneuve's interpretation of the 1965 sci-fi classic written by Frank Herbert.
The film was produced by Legendary Entertainment and Warner Brothers, and it is the first of two planned chapters of this franchise.
‘Dune’ will hit European cinemas on September 15, and American cinemas and HBO Max on October 22.
