Kelly Clarkson received $ 10.4 million Montana ranch where her estranged husband has been living
Kelly Clarkson received the Montana property that she and her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, have been fighting over in their divorce.
Clarkson now has control of the $ 10.4 million Montana ranch where Blackstock has been living since he was left, according to the court order obtained by E! News Thursday. The court rejected Blackstock's claim that the estate is marital property and that exes should share equally.
An anonymous source told E! News that since Clarkson was the one who bought the house, the property belonged to her.
A judge ruled in August that the prenuptial agreement the previous couple signed was valid and would stand.
“The Court further finds that Montana Ranch and the other two Montana properties are not titled in the name of the two parties, either as joint tenants with right of survivorship or as tenants in their entirety, as required by the PMA to create the matrimonial property, “ said the new decision. “The Tribunal, therefore, rejects the Respondent's position that Montana Ranch and other Montana properties are marital property owned by the Parties 50/50. "
Blackstock still lives on the property. He made a "deliberate choice" to "change his life" and become a full-time rancher following his split from Clarkson, according to an August filing obtained by the outlet.
Clarkson previously applied for permission to sell the ranch because it had become a “financial burden” on her part. The ranch's maintenance costs reportedly totaled more than $ 81,000 per month.
However, the singer's request to sell the house was initially denied because Blackstock still lived there; instead, Blackstock was ordered to pay the property's steep fees starting in April.
Now that she has the reins of the property, Clarkson could soon move forward with her plans to ditch the ranch. In June, the TV show host bought a colonial-style home for $ 5.445 million in the Lake Toluca area of Los Angeles and ditched her 20,000-square-foot Nashville mansion for $ 6.3 million.
The court also previously decided to grant Clarkson's request to be declared legally single in the middle of their divorce.
Her attorney filed a separate trial motion to terminate her marital status, and it was granted last month. She also reinstated her maiden name.
Despite their messy split, the “Voice” judge was still grateful for their relationship because he gave her their 7-year-old daughter River Rose and 5-year-old son Remington Alexander.
“Kelly is grateful for her relationship with Brandon, she learned a lot about herself."
