Sony prepares the Xperia Ace 3

Sony has lost a lot of ground in the mobile phone market, but it still offers a library of interesting products. And it foreshadows the arrival of another device this spring, the Xperia Ace 3 (2022), aimed at the mid-range and distinguished by its small size.

Apple's iPhone SE, unveiled this week, is not only the cheapest in the company's lineup but also the smallest in size. A design that, in contrast to the current trend of producing massive mobiles with screens close to 7 inches for small tablets, has an appeal among those looking for compact terminals that are easy to move and use with one hand.

Manufacturers who deal with Android have not shown much interest in this area, but there are a few exceptions. Sony is one of them, with the Ace series. According to the information we have, the new model will have a general design that is almost identical to the Ace 2 of 2020, with a 5.5-inch diagonal screen that is balanced in display and handling capacity.

Sony will gamble on a single sensor for the rear, while the front one for selfies will be housed under a waterdrop notch. With increased resolution, AI, and software, both will be able to increase their capacity.

Given that Sony is the world's leading seller of mobile photosensors, this will be a well-covered topic.

Changes have also been made to the fingerprint sensor, which is now located on the side close to the physical volume controls. Its battery would have a capacity of 4,500 mAh and would charge quickly. We also see a 3.5mm audio connector that is being phased out of modern phones.

The internal hardware details are unknown, but given that prior versions employed MediaTek, it is not difficult to deduce that Sony will rely on chipsets such as the Dimensity 900. A decent mid-range development introduced by the Chinese manufacturer last year that, in addition to improvements in process and graphic performance, has 5G capability.

The Xperia Ace 3 would be the first in its series to support the current generation of mobile networks, as the new iPhone SE was. If that chipset is used, it will also include improved wireless connectivity, including Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2.

The Sony terminal's availability and price are unknown, but it should be significantly less expensive than the iPhone and an Android alternative for consumers looking for tiny mobiles.
