The movie 'Don't Look Up' hides a surprise
Ever since he arrived on Netflix this Christmas, the public on social media has not stopped talking about the film 'Don't Look Up', directed by Adam McKay - more precisely its ending.
A new trump card in Netflix's offer is a scathing satire on the American problem with the denial of a dilutive crisis in the sign of a huge asteroid rushing towards Earth. Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence play astronomers who discover a threat from space that is able to end the life we know, only to discover that no one - least of all the US government - cares.
Explanation of the ending of the film 'Don't Look Up'
As you might have guessed, they do not prevent the asteroid from hitting Earth. The plan to break the meteor - invented by billionaire Peter Irsherwell is failing. Both Peter and President Janie Orlean lie and say they have to go to the bathroom, and run out of the room. It turns out they have an escape plan for themselves and the richest Americans. That plan was that about 2,000 people will freeze and escape on a spacecraft programmed to find a planet that can support life.
Astronomer Dr. Randall Mindy (Leonardo DiCaprio) was offered a seat on the ship, but he declined. Instead, he spends his last moments cooking and eating dinner with his family, Kate (Jennifer Lawrence), her kind boyfriend Yule (Timothée Chalamet) and their friend and colleague Dr. Teddy (Rob Morgan). As the world around them shakes, they dine and talk.
And while many have finished watching the movie with the check-out rush, those who chose to watch it too have encountered two inset scenes revealing what happened to refugees from Earth, 22,740 years after the devastating asteroid hit Earth.
The spaceship with the rich inhabitants of the Earth has finally found a habitable planet and shows the encounter of Earthlings with a creature resembling Dr. Seuss.
The second scene at the very end of the check-out rush shows the character of Jason Orleans, played by Jonah Hill, who emerges from the rubble after an unsuccessful escape from Earth after the asteroid hits it. The first thing he did, after calling his mom, was to take out his smartphone and record a video for social media in the role of the last living man on Earth.
What we do know is that this is a black humor comedy that brings astronomy to the forefront combined with the apocalypse and that the main characters are embodied by Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence.
But what somehow makes us most happy in this film is the extraordinary film cast full of stars, and it consists of Meryl Streep, Jonah Hill, Cate Blanchett, Timothée Chalamet, Ariana Grande, Matthew Perry, Chris Evans, Tyler Perry, Melanie Lynskey, Rob Morgan, Mark Rylance, Michael Chiklis, and Ron Perlman. The film’s director is Adam McKay.
By the way, DiCaprio recently told Access that the cast, which includes Jennifer Lawrence and Jonah Hill, was on its feet when Meryl came in, as they should have been, referring to how much they respect her work.
“Look, when you have the opportunity to work with the greatest living actress in the world, everyone is on their feet, everyone is ready, and we’re just trying to keep up with her,” said the actor, who has already had the opportunity to work with Streep in 1996 on the film “Marvin’s Room” when the actress played his mother.
