The Duchess of York, known to the public simply as Fergie, offered her services to television producers to help actress Jessica Aquilina, who played her, enjoy her role as much as possible, after many illogicalities in portraying the royal families, especially Charles and Diane.

In an interview, she gave for the September issue of Town & Country magazine, Princess Beatrice, Eugenie's mother, and Prince Andrew's ex-wife said she was surprised at how few minutes her character actually got in the hit series, prompting executive producer Andy Harries in writing.

When she found out, she asked him could she help them with her advice, but he turned down her offer without much explanation.

Speaking about her past and life in the royal family, Fergie said she had long since stopped bothering about people criticizing her past, learning from Nelson Mandela, the late South African politician, and the president who fought for the rights of South Africa’s majority black population.

It was he who spent 27 years in prison and later became the only light in the lives of South Africans and eventually won the Nobel Prize.

‘One morning I woke up and thought - Mandela has forgiven his persecutors, surely I can forgive mine too,’ said Fergie, adding that she felt that her late sister-in-law, Princess Diana, had always been portrayed as a ‘saint’ while they declared her a ‘sinner’.

Yet even though she has moved on, she admits that she still sometimes struggles with the cruelty of the media and the articles she has read about herself. ‘When they keep telling you're Duchess of the Piglet ’or‘ Dirty Fergie ’, you just start believing it yourself. That person who thinks she is fat, ugly, and disgusting still lives in me, but she no longer has that much right to vote. '
