Comeback for 5800X in the CPU charts

The Ryzen 7 58000X3D, AMD's "fastest gaming CPU," will be available on April 20th. In the pricing comparison, the "little" sibling 5800X manages to reclaim first place in the CPU rankings.

If you look at the CPU charts of the PCGH pricing comparison this week, you'll notice that a chip is making an unexpected comeback. For several days now, the Ryzen 7 5800X has reigned supreme. For a long time, this was not the case.

In the PCGH pricing comparison, the 8-core 5800X currently has the most searches. Although the Vermeer processor, along with the Ryzen 9 5900X, is the most popular CPU in the PCGH community, other CPUs have since taken the top.

Current price-performance recommendations, such as the Ryzen 5 5600X (from 224 USD, for example at Mindfactory) or the Core i5-12400F (from 179 USD, for example at Mindfactory), were particularly popular. But, of course, the 5800X is now king, and it will be joined at the throne by its big brother Ryzen 7 5800X3D on April 20th.

The fact that the 5800X has a place in the spotlight is remarkable, if only because recent price cuts in Ryzen 5000 CPUs have had little impact on this processor of all things. In the last twelve months, the 449 USD, RRP has always been severely undercut, and the Vermeer CPU with the biggest disparity between street price and recommended retail price has always been the 5800X.

Other Ryzen 5000 reps have recently experienced higher potential savings. The 5950X deviates the most: the flagship is presently available at Mindfactory for 590 USD, which is 26% less than the RRP.

It will be interesting to observe how the price structure looks after April 20th. In addition to the 5800X3D, there is a slew of other Ryzen CPUs available at various price points and with varying levels of technology.

The 5800X3D costs $449 USD, while the Ryzen 7 5700X is expected to cost $299 USD. At 444 USD, the 12-core Ryzen 9 5900X is already cheaper than the 5800X3D. ( Mindfactory again ). However, AMD also stated that the 5800X3D outperforms the 5900X by an average of 15% in games.

It should then fall below the $200 USD threshold with the Ryzen 5 5600 (199 USD) and Ryzen 5 5500 (159 USD). Because of the L3 cache bisection, the Ryzen 5 5500 does not appear particularly gleaming on paper. Other Zen 2-based CPUs flesh out the lineup even more. Benchmarks will demonstrate what a $99 processor like the Ryzen 3 4100 is capable of.
