Daniel Craig was given the rank of Honorary Commander in the British Royal Navy

After more than a decade of playing the world’s most famous secret agent, actor Daniel Craig now shares another thing with James Bond: the military rank of commander.

The ‘mandate’ of the British actor in that role was spent fighting shady organizations around the world, riding a motorbike, jumping on a moving train, and competing in high-stakes poker at Casino Royale.

Now ahead of the premiere of his latest Bond film, “No Time To Die,” Craig has been named Honorary Commander of the Royal Navy.

Craig said, "I am truly privileged and honored to have been appointed to the rank of Honorary Commander in Senior Service."

He is eager to provide support to members of the Royal Navy, with a special interest in the families of members of the Navy.

Craig’s appointment to the rank - just like the spy he embodied on-screen - reflects his personal support for the British Armed Forces and is linked to a legacy created by a fictional British secret agent.

The new film features the British warship HMS Dragon, with the coat of arms of a red dragon on the hull seen cutting through the waves.

During the production of “No Time To Die,” the filmmakers worked closely with the Royal Navy and the Department of Defense. With the advent of the HMS Dragon, RAF base Brize Norton in Oxfordshire was used as a location in the film, ‘acting out’ as NATO airbase in Norway where Bond joins MI6 allies and later boards the C-17 Globemaster.

The Royal Navy actually has a few real Bonds in its ranks, and Commander Frances Bond is invited to a meeting with Craig before the premiere of the new film.

Bond, based in Portsmouth, said: "A lot of my colleagues teased me because I'm a real-life Bond, but I never imagined that one day I would meet the actor who played him. I really enjoyed talking to Daniel Craig and the rest of the cast. It was fascinating to hear their perspectives on working with the armed forces and learning about the Hollywood world. There are some weird similarities between what we do. I was lucky enough to travel the world during my service in the Royal Navy, like a cast moving around film locations. "
