Since the death of legendary British musician David Bowie in early 2016, his fans have had several opportunities to buy many of his, as Architecture Digest wrote, “subtly decadent things”. Of course, it was only for those with a deeper pocket.
Another important and luxurious part of his legacy is now for sale - a custom-made El Caran motor yacht. The ship, which the musician ordered from the Italian shipyard Benetti in 1974, is selling for 5.1 million dollars, according to the portal BoatInternational.
Delivered to Bowie in 1977, the 39-meter vessel, as they say, "classic and timeless in appearance", has undergone many renovations during its lifetime on the world's seas. The last was in 2020 when the ship got a new coat of paint and a brand new teak deck. The yacht, now called El Caran, was named Deneb Star C by Bowie.
There are six guest cabins, a maximum of 12, and five more crew cabins, and the entire interior is lined with mahogany. It also has a spacious owner's cabin, and the decoration reflects the style of the former owner - a mixture of classic and contemporary works of art, exotic wood and neon colors, and the most modern audio-video technology. The boat has an indoor and outdoor dining area, several lounges, and decks offering shade and sunbathing areas on request.
By the way, after Bowie’s death, many of his works from his vast personal art collection were offered and sold at auctions. Sotheby’s in New York City, for example, offered as many as 400 works of art, including works by Jean-Michel Basquiat and Ettore Sottsass. At the auction in 2017, a New York apartment that the unrepentant musician shared with his wife, supermodel Iman, was sold for $ 6.5 million.
Bowie, born David Robert Jones, is the author of 25 albums and has starred in several films. His latest studio album "Blackstar" was released on January 8 2016 on his 69th birthday. He was known for his skillful musical fusions, as well as several alter egos: Ziggy Stardust, Aladdin Sane, and The Thin White Duke.
