Denzel Washington's wife refused his proposal twice, it was rumored that he had an affair, and they have been married for 38 years

Famous actor Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta Pearson are considered one of the most harmonious couples in the world of show business.

The two of them celebrated their 38th wedding anniversary in June, and it is interesting that Pauletta accepted the proposal - the third time Denzel proposed to her! Twelve years after the wedding, they renewed their vows in South Africa and they had four children.

"There is no recipe for a perfect marriage. I have been married to Pauletta for 38 years, and we, just like everyone else, have our ups and downs. It’s hard work, but we made a promise to each other. At that time, I didn't know what I needed to know about love, but I married a girl who knew what love was and knew how to share it " Washington said a few years ago.

Pauletta and Denzel met in 1977 during the filming of "Wilma", and they got married six years later. It is also interesting that they still cannot agree on their first date story.

"She'll tell you she paid the check on our first date, but I'll tell you what actually happened. I paid for everything earlier, and then we decided to take a taxi home. When I saw how far she lived, I didn't want to argue, so I let her pay for the ride" he said with a laugh.

As he pointed out, they stayed hungry at their own wedding.

"We were so busy greeting our dear guests and taking photos that we were left without food in the end," the actor said in an interview.

The couple had four children: a son, John David, a daughter, Katia, and twins, Malcolm and Olivia, of whom the actor is very proud.

"It all starts with the family home. My children are good people. They are not perfect, but they are generous, humble and good, all thanks to my wife" he said on one occasion.

Pauletta was also an actress, but after she got married she decided to leave her job and dedicate herself to her family.

"He's a s*x symbol, and I see that every time we go out somewhere. They are pushing me, kicking me, just to get closer to him" she said honestly about her husband's fans.

"I live with this man. I've seen all his ups and downs, I've seen sadness, everything, and he knows that he has stability and support in me. It gives him extra strength and I know he won’t abuse it. I can swear to it" Pauletta added then.

Although gossip about his infidelity emerged in 2013, they successfully overcame it.

"Marriage is something you have to work on all the time. You must never give up on each other because that is something you have committed to. Not everything is fabulous, the honeymoon does not last long and the only thing left for you to do is work on your relationship" Denzel once said.
