Five end-of-summer series we can't wait for
Some big-budget productions arrive soon!
Summer is the time when productions and televisions put on their program what they don't have high hopes for. Things have obviously changed, so in odd weeks some big-budget productions arrive that fans are waiting for.
The Sandman - August 5 Netflix
Many have wanted to screen Neil Gaiman's comic book masterpiece for decades. The honor, however, went to David Goyer, an old Hollywood worker who had his hands in various scripts and films, from Nolan's Batman to the latest Superman to various projects. The star cast is led by Tom Sturridge, but there are also Stephen Fry, David Thewlis, Gwendoline Christie, and many others. The story centers on the personification of dreams or a gentleman named Dream, who escapes from years of captivity with the desire to continue his old life.
House of the Dragon – August 21, HBO Max
Let's forget the last season of Game of Thrones. Anyway, G.R.R. Martin has almost stated that many things will be different in the books he writes. Martin also supported the first in a series of spinoff series of this epic fantasy, which is coming soon. The plot of the series takes place a few hundred years before Game of Thrones and we see the Targaryen family at the center of the story, as well as Daenerys' grandfather and grandmother. Matt Smith, Paddy Considine, and Olivia Cooke lead the cast with white and platinum blonde hair.
Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power – September 2, Amazon Prime
Allegedly the most expensive series of all time, because a paltry 465 million was spent in the first season. The Lord of the Rings is coming to TV, but it also brings a new time and new characters, not the ones we saw in the movie. However, Middle Earth is still a place of action, as well as all the creatures that inhabited it, as well as new villains to fight against. Lord of the Rings fans are counting down the hours, not the days, before re-immersing themselves in this magical world.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law – August 22, Disney +
Mark Ruffalo will no longer be the only one who turns green when he gets angry in the Marvel Universe. Tatiana Maslany, who we remember from the excellent Orphan Black series, joins the superhero team as Jennifer Walters, aka She-Hulk. She will be balancing her law work along with her superheroic outings. Ruffalo will also star in the original series, and this will be the first stand-alone Hulk project since 2008's The Incredible Hulk, when Edward Norton portrayed the green monster.
A League of Their Own – August 12, Amazon Prime
If you didn't recognize the title, this is a remake of the cult film starring Geena Davis, Madonna, and Rosie O'Donnell, about women who make a baseball team while their husbands are away in World War II. Abbi Jacobson, who we know from the cult comedy Broad City, together with Will Graham, wrote a new reading of the story. The series follows all-new characters and the formation of the baseball league in 1943. We'll see her players struggle to keep their team alive through games, injuries, sexual awakenings, and journeys across the US that is changing under the influence of an ongoing war.
