Geforce RTX 4080: Finished samples only in July
According to reports, executable samples with AD102 GPUs will not be available until July, putting the RTX 4080 / 4090 release in August in jeopardy. Because the AD102 has not yet been made available to Nvidia's board partners, they are also claimed to be developing using Ampere GPUs.
The first RX 6000 and RTX 3000 graphics cards will shortly be celebrating their second birthdays, signaling the arrival of the RX 7000 and RTX 4000 generations.
At least for the latter, a release timetable has lately emerged in the rumor mill: the Geforce RTX 4090 will be available in August, followed by the Geforce RTX 4080 in September, and the Geforce RTX 4070 in October.
In this regard, the Igor's Lab website has now confirmed, with confirmation from the well-known leaker kopite7kimi, that the new AD102 GPU is not yet accessible to Nvidia's board partners.
So far, they've had to keep working on their new (special) designs with the current GA102 GPU, which prevents final certification.
Furthermore, Igor's Lab believes that the parts list for Nvidia's first RTX 4000 graphics card will be revealed later this month, completing the reference design.
The first samples are then to be created and evaluated by mid-July before the first sample with operational hardware and software is to be made accessible.
If the schedule is followed correctly, the first useful leaks that are not based on simulations or estimations may come soon.
Following additional testing and parallel BIOS development, mass manufacturing should not begin until August or September, making a true August release difficult. If the required schedule is met, the appropriate test results should also be considered. If Nvidia discovers a mistake in the PCB design, the RTX 4080 / 4090 release date could be pushed back a few weeks.
