Google Pixel 6a: Performance similar to Pixel 6
Despite the fact that Google's I/O 2022 event is already scheduled for May 11, we continue to get minor previews and leaks of the company's next smartphone, with a Pixel 6a that has already unveiled its first features, performance on some well-known tests or benchmarks.
And, as we can see from Geekbench 5, the Pixel 6a will not only be presented in a similar (if not identical) design to the Pixel 6 but will also offer performance and power comparable to the base model, far from the significant reduction that was expected for him.
Specifically, the Google Pixel 6a has a single-core performance score of 1050, beating the previous score of the base model by 6 points; while its score for jobs with multiple cores rises to 2833, a more significant boost in this case compared to the Pixel 6's 2758 points.
Some results are surprising given that the "a" series Pixel phones are often less expensive and thus slightly less powerful than the original phones. Something that will not happen this time, as it appears that the new phone will retain all of the family's most critical functions.
Indeed, as seen in this Geekbench listing, both the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6a will employ the same SoC, with the only change being a minor decrease to 6GB of RAM on the "reduced" model.
And it is quite doubtful that we will find alternative models with greater RAM options accessible in the case of a low-cost phone. Although, as we can see from the benchmark, this should not be a major worry in terms of performance.
The Pixel 6a is believed to have a 6.2-inch flat OLED display with a single centered hole-punch camera, as well as a twin back camera arrangement with a single LED flash, according to rumors. The same 50-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL GN1 sensor was used.
So, we'll have to wait until next month to find out the price and final specifications of this phone, which will certainly be Google's most popular alternative.
