Gwyneth Paltrow opens up about traumatic childbirth experience: "We almost died"
Gwyneth Paltrow revealed that she almost died while giving birth to her daughter Apple. The 49-year-old actress was a guest on Dex Shepard's podcast "Armchair Expert", where they talked about how the body changes with age.
The actress revealed that her delivery was a painful and traumatic experience.
"I had two caesareans. The birth of my older daughter was an emergency, it was crazy, we almost died," she explained.“It was a traumatic experience. I won‘t lie. But it was worth every minute. It’s amazing,” Gwyneth Paltrow added.
"Anyway, after that, there is a big scar on your body and you think 'Wow, that wasn't there,'" the actress said.

Although Paltrow did not go into details about the birth of her now 17-year-old daughter Apple, whom she has with her ex-husband, musician Chris Martin, she previously mentioned the near-death experience and miscarriage she had while pregnant with her third child.
"I had a very bad experience when I was pregnant for the third time and it didn't work out. I almost died," she said in 2013.

She also talked about how society puts too much emphasis on the condition of the female body after childbirth, especially with the growth of social networks.
"Thank God there wasn‘t Instagram when I had babies,” explaining how many women post after their birth, “Oh I just gave birth two weeks ago and I have a completely washboard stomach,” to which she says “Wow that’s not what I [looked like].”

"Now we feed on perfect pictures that show us how we should look all the time - with children, without them, it doesn't matter," she concluded.
