Life story of George Harrison

Guitarist George Harrison was known as a silent member of the legendary Beatles. He was born on February 25, 1943. George grew up in Liverpool, UK, and there he met Paul McCartney and John Lennon and their band ‘The Quarrymen’ in 1957.

He was only 15 at the time, so Lennon thought he was too young to perform with them, but McCartney managed to convince him to leave him. After trying out a few names they decided their group will be called the Beatles. At the beginning of his career at the Star Club in Hamburg and later in Liverpool, he played as a minor. They were later joined by drummer Ringo Starr and became the most famous band of all time.

Harrison married model Pattie Boyd in 1966, and his godfather was his colleague from the band, Paul McCartney. They broke up in 1974, and Boyd accused him of being unfaithful to her many times. One affair also mentioned Ringo Starr's wife, who later married Eric Clapton.

In 1978, George remarried Olivia Harrison, with whom he remained until his death. They had one son, Dhani Harrison. The musician was attacked on December 30, 1999, at their home by 36-year-old Michael Abram. He broke into their house and attacked George with a kitchen knife, piercing his lungs and injuring his head before Olivia overpowered him. Abram was suffering from schizophrenia. He believed that George was an alien and that the Beatles were witches from hell. It is quite an unbelievable story. Harrison later commented that he felt exhausted. He thought he could hear his lung exhaling and he felt the blood in his mouth. He thought it was the end.

In May 2001, he underwent surgery to remove a lung tumor. The tumor spread to the brain and he ended up in treatment again in July. He passed away on November 29, 2001, at a friend's home in Los Angeles. He was 58 years old.

George was the first Beatles member to breakthrough as a solo musician. Among his famous songs are ‘My Sweet Lord’, ‘What Is Life’, ‘When We Was Fab’, and his best-selling album came out in 1970 under the title ‘All Things Must Pass’. He also wrote some of the Beatles' hits, such as ‘Here Comes The Sun’, ‘Something’ and ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’.
