MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset breaks in tests

The only one with similar performance is the Apple Bionic A15 chipset.

If you plan to buy a smartphone, in 95% of cases you will get a model with a chipset from Snapdragon (Qualcomm), Exynos (Samsung), Dimensity (MediaTek), or Bionic (Apple) series. And while Samsung, Qualcomm, and Apple have been fighting for laurels with their strongest models, MediaTek has significantly improved its latest generation of 9000 series chips.

Similarities and differences

According to the first tests of the series announced back in November 2021, it seems that Samsung and Qualcomm are in serious trouble. The Dimensity 9000 is the most powerful MediaTek chip ever made and draws its power from the TSMC 4 nm manufacturing process that enables a large number of small-area transistors, along with reduced power consumption.

On the other hand, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 gen 1 and Samsung Exynos 2200 are made in the same production process, but in the Samsung factory, which does not boast as well-perfected production process as TSMC. MediaTek DImensity 9000 also relies on the new ARM v9 architecture, as well as the two mentioned competitors.

Dimensity 9000 phones are coming soon

Although we have not received phones with Dimensity 9000 chipset so far, Oppo announced Find X5 Pro Dimensity Editon, which should appear in China at the end of March, and Xiaomi confirmed that Redmi K50 Pro Plus will also have Dimensity 9000 in it.

Prior to the official presentation, the famous Ice Universe insider shared pictures of his Geekbench 5 tests (probably with the Redmi K50 Pro Plus) in which the new phone scored 1309 points in single-core and 4546 points in multi-core tests.

The only phone that is still ahead of the Dimensity 9000 chipset is the iPhone 13 Pro Max with Apple A15 Bionic, whose results go over 1735 points for a single-core test, or over 4815 for a test that employs all available cores.

Of course, all this should be taken with a dose of the reserve, because the speed of the chipset depends not only on the CPU power measured by GeekBench, but also on the GPU, but also on the part dealing with artificial intelligence, an element that is becoming increasingly important in smartphones. We should not forget the heating, ie consumption, things that determine the usability of the phone in everyday use.

Also, one of the problems with the Android OS is that different versions of the operating system, different GUIs used, and even some manufacturer settings can significantly affect the results.

On the other hand, these numbers are really impressive, especially when we keep in mind that MediaTek never had a chip that could compete equally with the strongest competing solutions.

Ice Universe has hinted that phones with the Dimensity 9000 chipset should cost around $ 500, but that doesn’t seem like a realistic option to us, especially if one of these phones has a slightly more serious camera system.
