Nvidia unrivaled with the Geforce GTX 1060
Nvidia GPUs are obviously the most popular, according to Steam's hardware and software poll in February 2022. The nearly six-year-old Geforce GTX 1060 is at the top, as it has been in prior months. GPU pricing appears to be important to Steam users.
The most recent data from Steam's hardware and software survey for the month of February has been released. A glance at the most popular GPUs demonstrates that Nvidia obviously has the advantage.
AMD's integrated graphics finished 14th, with the first entry of a desktop GPU coming in 17th. The Geforce GTX 1060, which debuted in 2016, is the most popular among Steam users, accounting for about 8% of the market.
Steam users just seem to want to play
This model has remained at the top of the Steam survey for several months and has maintained its user share thus far. The fact that the Geforce GTX 1060 is ranked first in the study reveals information about the user behavior of gamers in the graphics card segment. Because, despite its nearly six-year age, the Geforce GTX 1060 is the most popular among Steam users.
This is almost definitely due to the relatively expensive GPU prices, which the vast majority of gamers are unwilling to spend for contemporary cards. This should be the deciding factor, especially for customers who want to play titles whose graphics demand can still be handled by the GTX 1060. The question here is whether lower GPU prices will trigger a shift in the rankings.
The Geforce GTX 1060 is claimed to have priced $249 USD when it first hit the market. According to the PCGH pricing comparison, a Geforce RTX 3060 is presently not available for less than 500 dollars.
Many gamers will probably question if it is even necessary to upgrade the graphics card, especially since a Geforce GTX 1060 with 6 GiB graphics memory still produces adequate performance today. The GTX 1060 should still be adequate for League of Legends and CS: GO, as well as recent titles, if the quality is reduced correspondingly.
In general, the hardware and software poll on Steam in February showed that entry-level and mid-range graphics cards, i.e. Nvidia's 50s and 60s GPUs, take the highest ranks. It's also worth noting that the first Ampere model with the Geforce RTX 3060 increased its user share marginally compared to January, although it's still trailing its predecessors.
As a result, Steam users appear to want to play and are likely to be more conservative when selecting a graphics card.
