R. Kelly was removed from YouTube after he was found guilty of a series of sexual offenses
During the trial, which lasted five and a half weeks, nine women and two men took to describing the sexual humiliation and violence inflicted on them by the singer. Many of the victims at the time of the abuse were minors
R’n’B singer R. Kelly, 54, real name Robert Sylvester Kelly was found guilty last month of racketeering, sex trafficking and abuse. The terms of his sentence should have been imposed on May 4.
About a week after the verdict was announced, YouTube removed both singer's channels (RKellyTV and RKellyVEVO) from its platform, Reuters reports . After this, Kelly will no longer be able to open a new YouTube channel, and the musician’s Instagram profile has also disappeared.
“We confirm that we have removed the two channels associated with R. Kelly, in accordance with our Creator Responsibility Guidelines,” a YouTube spokesman said.
The musician could have spent decades in prison and faced similar charges for nearly 20 years, but this is the first time he has been found guilty. Kelly continued to deny all charges.
During the trial, which lasted five and a half weeks, nine women and two men took to describing the sexual humiliation and violence inflicted on them by the singer. Many of the victims at the time of the abuse were minors, and a few said Kelly introduced ‘cowardice’ when they did not fulfill his wishes.
Despite this, Kelly’s music will continue to be available via the YouTube Music streaming platform, as well as any videos about him that the singer did not post himself.
The MuteRKelly campaign (Silence R. Kelly) demands that his songs be removed from all streaming platforms.
