River Phoenix's death was strange to many, and the girl he then loved only recently told what exactly happened that fateful evening
River Phoenix passed away in 1993 at The Viper Room Club in Los Angeles, and the actor was the biggest star of his generation.
The still mourned American actor River Phoenix would be celebrating his 51st birthday these days, and the tragic death of one of the most promising actors of his generation in 1993 turned Hollywood around.
River was special from the very beginning, and the lifestyle he had with his family also contributed to that. His parents were part of a cult that moved them frequently, and he mostly hung out with his brother, actor Joaquin Phoenix, and sisters Liberty, Rain, and Summer. He has been interested in music and acting since he was a boy, and his parents recognized that and took him to auditions for TV and film roles.
The first series in which he appeared was "Seven Brides for Seven Brothers" in 1982, and already in that period, he gained fans from all over the world. River and his sister Rain played together for a time in the band Aleka's Attic, in which River was the lead vocalist and guitarist. The famous actor is part of music history because during the filming of "My Own Private Idaho" he met Flea, today's bassist of the band Red Hot Chilli Peppers, who dedicated the song "Transcending" to River. Michael Stipe was also close with River, and his band REM dedicated the entire album to this great actor.
In his short but rich career, he has received numerous awards for his work, and with each new film, he has gained more and more fans from all over the world.
On the fateful October 30, 1993, he went out with his girlfriend Samantha Mathis, Flea, his brother Joaquin and sister Rain. They went to The Viper Room Club, which was then owned by actor Johnny Depp, and River at one point just collapsed. The concert, which was taking place at the time, was immediately interrupted, and Flea, who was normally on stage with Depp, went to the hospital with Phoenix. Despite doctors’ efforts to revive him, he was pronounced dead at 1:51 p.m.
After the death of the famous actor, various conspiracy theories were circulating. Samantha Mathis, who was his girlfriend at the time of his death, refuted all articles about conspiracy theories a few years ago but said it was clear that something was going on with the actor. "He was sober most of the time, but many of his friends took drugs and I knew something was wrong. I didn't see him take drugs, but he behaved strangely on several occasions so I was uncomfortable in his company," she said. She added that he injected heroin, but only after he entered the club where he collapsed.
The movie “Dark Blood” was filmed when River passed away, and the producers then said they shot 80% of the film, but they needed to figure out how to end it all without him. The film premiered 20 years after River's death.
