Ryan Gosling's 5 best roles
The Canadian actor has a lot of great roles behind him.
Ryan Gosling returned to the seventh art after a four-year hiatus. We can currently see him in the role of Court Gentry in the action movie The Gray Man, and next year he will appear as Ken in the movie Barbie. The Canadian actor has a lot of great roles behind him, five of which left the biggest impression on us, find out in the following lines...
The Notebook (2004)
When Nick Cassavetes decided to adapt Nicholas Sparks' romantic novel, he wanted an unknown and not overly handsome actor to play the main character in The Notebook. He chose Ryan Gosling, who at the time was still not considered a sex symbol. The Canadian actor had great chemistry with his co-star Rachel McAdams in this heartbreaking story about a couple who fell in love during World War II. The film did well at the box office and allowed Gosling to show his acting talent to the general public.
Half Nelson (2006)
In Half Nelson, Gosling played Dan Dunne, a high school history teacher struggling with drug addiction. This role brought him his first Oscar nomination, but the prestigious award did not end up in his hands. The film, which cost only $700,000, was well received by audiences and grossed $5 million during its theatrical life. Today, Half Nelson is considered by many to be one of the best films of the first decade of the 21st century, and the credit for its good reputation certainly belongs to Ryan Gosling.
Drive (2011)
Gosling continued his series of collaborations with less established directors in the film Drive, in which he portrayed an unnamed driver, who works as a stuntman in Hollywood by day and helps robbers escape from crime scenes by night because of his driving talent. The Canadian actor chose this role because he wanted to try his hand at an action film. He and the Danish director Nicolas Winding Refn made another film together, Only God Forgives from 2013, but this achievement met with a much weaker reception from the film public.
The Big Short (2015)
In Adam McKay's critically acclaimed film about the financial crisis, Gosling shared scenes with Steve Carell, Christian Bale, and Brad Pitt. In The Big Short, he played Jared Vennett, a bank executive who foresaw an impending economic disaster. The Canadian actor was more than convincing in this role and did not wear out in the company of such big names from the world of film.
La La Land (2016)
The first collaboration between Gosling and director Damien Chazelle resulted in one of the most critically acclaimed musicals of recent decades. In this film, the popular actor plays a failed jazz pianist, whose life changes after he meets aspiring actress Mia (Emma Stone). Gosling received his second Oscar nomination for this role. However, he did not receive an American Film Academy Award again, but at least he was awarded a Golden Globe.
