Sam:'I've hurt some people and I feel terrible'

Actor Sam Elliott decided to apologize and withdraw the harsh words he said about the Oscar-winning film "Dog's Paws", which many saw as homophobic, which would not be Elliott's first such outburst. By the way, the actor, who often plays the role of a cowboy, apologized for attacking the LGBT community during a guest appearance on the podcast "WTF Podcast with Marc Maron" back in February. On Sunday, however, Sam was given the opportunity to clarify the situation, although his explanation seemed rather confusing. However, he took full responsibility and stated that he did not want to hurt anyone, especially not members of the LGBT community.

During a guest appearance at the Deadline’s Contenders TV event, where he promoted his new show “1883” Elliott stressed that he didn’t mean anything bad and became quite emotional as he listed how many friends he insulted in his own words.

Namely, the actor attacked "Dog's Paws", considering it a distorted depiction of the American West, claiming that many farmers in the film were shown naked torsos like Chippendales dancers, strippers, seemingly questioning allusions to homosexuality. He also did not like the fact that director Jane Campion made the film in her native New Zealand with the intention of portraying Montana.

Actor Benedict Cumberbatch then reacted to Elliott's words by finding them "weird".Sam also included him in his apology, especially apologizing to the brilliant cast, and especially to Benedict, who plays a homosexual in the film and hides his sexual orientation. Either way, Elliott himself acted rather sincerely in his apology which met with the approval of all to whom it was addressed.

Recall, Elliott is known for his distinctive lanky physique, full mustache, and deep, sonorous, resonant voice. He began his film career with minor appearances in the movies like The Way West (1967), Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969). He also guest-starred on television in the Western Gunsmoke (1972) and the television films Murder in Texas (1981) and The Shadow Riders (1982). His film breakthrough was in the drama Lifeguard (1976).
