The fifth album is about to be released, but Ed Sheeran's plans have been thwarted: "I apologize to everyone I let down"

Ed Sheeran tested positive for coronavirus less than a week before the release of his fifth album.

The singer at the top of the music charts said in a statement posted on Instagram that he still intends to give scheduled interviews and perform from his home.

Hey guys. Quick note to tell you that I’ve sadly tested positive for Covid, so I’m now self-isolating and following government guidelines,” Sheeran said.

" It means that I’m now unable to plough ahead with any in person commitments for now, so I’ll be doing as many of my planned interviews/performances I can from my house."

"Apologies to anyone I’ve let down. Be safe everyone x"

Next week, Sheeran is scheduled to join Zane Lowe of Apple Music live to perform new songs from his album and answer fan questions.

Ed was also supposed to appear on SNL on November 6th and he offered to do his performance via video link, however, a source told us that that just isn't something that SNL does as they "like to have the performer in the studio.”

As of right now the show is "scrambling" to find “another singer who appeals to the same demo,” and that could be either Justin Bieber or Shawn Mendes, however, nothing is yet decided. In the end, they may decide to make an exception and allow him to perform online, which we have yet to see.

The British singer became famous after the release of the single “The A Team” in 2011, the lead song on his first album, which was released in September of that year.
