The Honda Prologue: SUV, designed in VR

Honda has released the first sketch announcing its entry into the electric SUV market. The model that will do this will be the Prologue, a family car for the road, but also for some off-road adventure

Japanese manufacturer Honda is joining a number of companies announcing a major transformation to electric drives.

This process is already underway, and will continue with the launch of a completely new model, the electric SUV Prologue, during 2024. This week, Honda released the first sketch to show the public in which direction the design of their cars is going in the near future.

The Honda Prologue will be the brand's first eSUV and the first to be designed entirely "remotely". Namely, faced with the challenge of the pandemic, Honda's designers resorted to working from home, so the Prologue was created.

In doing so, they used state-of-the-art virtual reality visualization tools, in which experts from Honda Design Studio in Los Angeles virtually collaborated with colleagues from the design and development department in Japan, as well as experts from General Motors, the company with which this SUV will be jointly developed.

The result of their collaboration is a modern and fresh SUV design, which builds on Honda's existing range. The clean and simple lines are similar to those of the Honda e, and balance between the "off-road" look and the elegant impression of a family car.

The teams also focused on aerodynamics, so this exterior design also made it possible to reduce the noise that cabin passengers will experience.

The absence of engine noise has led to most of the outside sounds in the cabin coming from air currents, so Honda designers have paid special attention to reducing this side effect.

Honda plans to launch the new electric Prologue in 2024. By 2030, as many as 30 new electric models will be on the market under their brand, and the planned production is 2 million units.

After Prologue, in 2026 the production of new models will be launched, based on Honda e: Architecture's own platform. During 2027, cheaper electric models, re-created in collaboration with GM, on a completely new platform, should start to arrive on the market.
