They seemed to lead a dream life, but everything was collapsing behind the spotlight, and their tragic death is still a mystery!

Son of US President John F. KennedyJohn Kennedy Junior in the early 90s  was followed by the media at every turn and carried the title of the sexiest man in the world.

Everyone was wondering which woman would be able to tame John, and the list of his girlfriends included a number of famous beauties, among whom were Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Cindy Crawford, Daryl Hannah, and Brooke Shields. But the one who won his heart was Carolyn Bessette

Bessette worked for the fashion house Calvin Klein and progressed very quickly and became a public relations manager. It was her job that secured her a fateful encounter with John.

Namely, they met in 1994 at a Calvin Klein party and Kennedy was immediately won over by Carolyn. When John invited her on a date, she turned him down and it was something new to him because he wasn’t used to people not falling for his charm.

He told me, 'I called her and she didn't answer.' He didn't like it. He couldn't believe she had turned him down. It had never happened before. She didn't really believe he was serious, John's colleague once said.

Soon Carolyn changed her mind about dating Kennedy. When they became a couple, they were often targeted by paparazzi and tabloids.

They followed their every move and everyone said Bessette would be the next Jackie Onassis. She won people over with her refined style and beauty.

As soon as I first saw them together, I knew there was something special between them,” Senator Ted Kennedy, John’s uncle, was saying at the time. In the summer of 1995, Carolyn moved into the Kennedys' apartment in Tribeca, and a year later the couple got engaged.

They have married away from the public eye on September 21, 1996, in Cumberland in a small wooden chapel. They did not want the media to be present at the ceremony and they managed to avoid that. However, some details were leaked, such as the lack of electricity in the church and the light provided by hundreds of candles. The newlyweds devised emotional vows that they said to each other in front of the guests.

I’ve never been happier in my life,” John’s godfather and friend Anthony Radziwill told what he told him the day he married Carolyn. But not everything was so fabulous. Namely, Carolyn was two hours late for the wedding because she had a panic attack because she could not put on the wedding dress herself.

The couple went on a honeymoon to Turkey, and immediately after returning to America, the paparazzi began harassing them. After returning from their honeymoon, they were greeted on their doorstep by hundreds of photographers.

"Our wedding is a big change, and for a private person like Carolyn even more so. Please give us privacy and peace," Kennedy told the media then.

Bessette became anxious, nervous, and frustrated by so much attention, and it was hard for her that the public dissected their relationship and lives down to the smallest detail. But that was not their only problem.

John wanted children with Carolyn, and she didn't want to and tried not to get pregnant. She could not imagine raising them under the magnifying glass of the public. Because of that, the couple quarreled more and more often and soon their idyllic love turned into a dysfunctional relationship.

They also resolved their quarrels on the street, so the media had photos of John pulling Carolyn by the hair, her taking the ring off her finger, and yelling at him.

"You got my ring, you're not going to get my dog," Kennedy replied angrily once. Bessette turned out to be a bully and the public felt that she was suffocating John and that he had changed because of her outbursts.

They did not want to give interviews and refused offers to appear in numerous fashion magazines. Carolyn was involved in humanitarian work and was a frequent guest at political dinners, including those at the White House. She and her husband were great friends of former US President Bill Clinton.

At one point, allegations surfaced that Carolyn was taking cocaine and that she had completely changed due to drug use. Her friends vehemently denied such allegations. She was reportedly jealous of all the women in John’s life, including his sister Caroline Kennedy. John and Carolyn were rumored to have marital problems and reportedly lived separately before they died.

People close to the couple said Kennedy wanted Bessette to seek professional help, and they were both considering a divorce. But they wanted to give themselves more time to change everything. They tried and went on romantic trips together on the weekends and visited the therapist, but one of the problems was that Bessette did not want to admit that she was addicted to drugs.

Carolyn died in a plane crash on July 16, 1999, along with her husband John and sister Lauren. The small plane was flown by Kennedy, and he didn't want to have a co-pilot. The plane crashed into the sea due to engine complications, and five days later their bodies were found on the ocean floor.

An autopsy determined that none of the victims had any traces of drugs or alcohol in their blood, and to this day it is a mystery why they boarded the plane in the middle of the night and decided to set off. It was even more confusing why John decided to do it because he had an injured leg and insufficient experience in piloting and his wife and her sister Lauren had to be aware of that.

Bessette was 33 and Kennedy was 38 at the time of her death.
