Tom Jones' hit "Delilah" will no longer be performed

Welshman Tom Jones commented on the controversial lyrics,

Choirs that had been singing Tom Jones' hit 'Delilah' before and during rugby matches in Wales will no longer do so, and the song has been formally removed from the Welsh Rugby Union's playlist.

Despite the fact that a spokeswoman for the Principality Stadium told Sky News that the song was deleted from the set in 2015, they have since verified that it will not be performed again. There is no prohibition on match goers singing the song.

The song 'Delilah' has become controversial following the outcry over the very contentious lyrics about Delilah being stabbed when her furious husband learned she was flirting with another man. Later, the spouse asks for pardon for her death.

- The WRU condemns domestic violence of any kind. We have previously sought advice from experts regarding the issue of censoring the song and with due respect, we are aware that this is problematic and upsetting for some fans - said the spokesperson.

Welshman Tom Jones weighed in on the contentious lyrics, claiming that people were taking the song too literally and dismissing charges that it trivialized violence against women.

David Ivan, whose Welsh anthem 'Yma O Hyd' is now being sung in stadiums, said:

- The song about murder tries to trivialize the idea of killing a woman. It is a shame that these words have now been elevated to the status of a secondary national anthem.

However, he opposes the ban on the performance of that song.

- Banning songs is not something I would ever advocate - even if it were possible.
