10 great actors who have never won an Oscar

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Award is the biggest event for people from the world of film, and this year it should take place on March 27. Golden statuettes are not only a recognition of excellence in Hollywood, but also a status symbol. They are considered so significant that nomination for the award is considered a great success. However, that does not mean that every exceptional actor receives that recognition - moreover, some, despite numerous nominations, remained deprived of the main award.

Here are just a few of them:

Bradley Cooper (Nine nominations)
Thanks to his versatile film engagement, Bradley Cooper has been nominated for an Oscar nine times in various categories. At the upcoming prestigious awards competition, he competes in the main category as a producer of "Nightmare Alley".

Glenn Close (Eight Nominations)
Glenn Close has been nominated for eight Oscars, but has never won one. The last time she failed to win the prestigious golden statuette was in 2021 for her role in "Hillbilly Elegy", when Jun Ju-Jung was chosen as the best supporting actress for "Minari".

Amy Adams (Six nominations)
Since her role in the film "Junebug" in 2006, Amy Adams has been nominated six times for the acting award of the Academy of Film Sciences and Arts, but she never won it.

Willem Dafo (Four Nominations)
Willem Dafo carefully chooses his roles, even in non-commercial productions, and despite his undeniable talent, he has not yet been awarded an Oscar, but has been nominated four times.
He was nominated for the ingenious portrayal of Vincent Van Gogh in the film "At Eternity's gate", but also for "The Florida project", "Shadow of the Vampire" and "Platoon" from 1986.

Ethan Hawke (Four Nominations)
Ethan Hawk has recorded four Oscar nominations in his career: two for Best Adapted Screenplay and two for Best Supporting Actor.

Will Smith (Four Nominations)
Will Smith is competing for an Oscar in two categories this year - for Best Picture, as the producer of "King Richard", and for Best Actor in the same film. He was first nominated for Best Actor in "Ali" in 2002 and repeated his success in 2007 with "The Pursuit of Happyness". However, the award was missing.

Jessica Chastain (Three nominations)
Jessica Chastain was nominated for an Oscar this year for the best female role in the film "The eyes of Tammy Faye", which is the third time she has competed for the prestigious award.

Edward Norton (Three Nominations)
Edward Norton has achieved many notable roles in his career, and three times he almost won an Oscar for them. Achievements in which he acted "for the Oscar", but did not receive the award are "Primal Fear", "American History X" and "Birdman".

Woody Harrelson (Three nominations)
The list of awards won by Woody Harrelson is long, but there are no Oscars among them.
He has been nominated for this award three times: first for “The People vs. Larry Flint” (1996), then for “The Messenger” (2009) and most recently for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing” (2018).

Ian Makelen (Two nominations)
Legendary British actor Ian Makelen has devoted much of his career to theater, especially Shakespeare's plays, but has gained worldwide fame in Hollywood.
He starred in a number of popular films, but is best known for his role as Gandalf in Jackson's "Lord of the Rings", which earned him his second Oscar nomination, after the first he received for "Gods and Monsters".
