Norway Geirangerfjord
The finds in the Sunnmore region were on the UNESCO World Heritage List, but that status is now threatened because there are plans to set up transmission lines across the fjord. Kayak down the fjord and discover two thunderous waterfalls, “Brudesloret” for newlyweds and “Seven Sisters”. The canal is about ten miles long, 1,600 feet wide, 1,200 feet deep, and surrounded by peaks up to 6,000 feet high on both sides. Vatnajokull Glacier Cave
The Vatnajokull Glacier, also known as the Vatna Glacier, is one of nature’s breathtaking products, but the caves that have formed beneath the glacier are even more beautiful. Located in the southeastern part of the island, the glacier covers more than 8 percent of the country. Vatnajokull is the largest ice cap in Europe with an area of 8,100 square kilometers and was first formed by a volcanic eruption that occurred in November 1996. The eruption melted billions of gallons of ice and formed a jewel-like interior of the cave that leaves adventurers amazed.
Northern Lights, Norway
Commonly known as the Northern Lights, the Aurora Borealis can be seen closest to the Earth's magnetic poles. The auroras seen inside the auroral oval may be directly above the head, but further on, they illuminate the horizon in the direction of the pole as a greenish glow or sometimes pale red. Lake Siljan, Sweden
Located in the center of the country, Siljan is the sixth largest lake in Sweden and one of the most beautiful places in Scandinavia. It covers a spacious 137 square meters. Part of the splendor of Siljan is that it was created more than 377 million years ago by the biggest meteor strike in Europe. The meteor crashed through the Earth's atmosphere and struck with a force of 500 million atomic bombs, eliminating all life and creating a ring-shaped crater of 75 km. This crater later became a lake and today is one of the most beautiful sights in Sweden. Many Swedes even decide to spend their holidays on Lake Siljan because the surroundings have lush green forests, unusual villages, outdoor activities, and a rich tradition of arts and crafts.
Mons Klint, Denmark
The area surrounding Mons Klint is home to dense forests, airy pastures, clear lakes, and steep uneven hills. The rocks and the nearby park are protected as a nature reserve. The chalk is made from the remains of the shells of millions of microscopic creatures that lived in the sea more than 70 million years ago. As the glaciers began to move westward, the pressures condensed and pushed upward, forming through hills and folds. Then, when the ice melted at the end of the last ice age, about 11,000 years ago, cliffs emerged.
