BMW iX M60 - The most powerful electric car from BMW
Although the BMW Group appears to have been hesitant at first to introduce a new generation of electric vehicles, it is now going all in. Following the iX3, i4, and iX models, the BMW iX M60 is the first electric vehicle from the BMW M division.
As the name implies, the new product is based on the iX model and, together with the iX 40 and iX 50 variants, is the most powerful in the entire line.
It has a maximum power output of 455 kW and a torque output of 1100 Nm. This "small thing" can reach 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, with the electronics limiting its top speed to 250 km/h. And this is a huge SUV weighing in at about 2600 kg.
Only the blue disc brake calipers and subtle M logo markings on all sides distinguish the special, sport-tuned M model. The optional BMW Laserlight headlights with BMW Selective Beam adaptable matrix technology only add to the overall appearance.
The front hood, like the previous models, cannot typically be opened; it can only be done at the service department. That's why there's a wiper fluid filling the neck beneath the front sign. Because the back doors open with the rear group lights, another set of lights is installed below them to assure your visibility even while the door is open.
The drive is handled by the fifth-generation BMW eDrive modular system, which in each drive unit unites the whole drive unit with the electric motor, power electronics, and gearbox in one enclosure.
Synchronous electric motors with external stimulation are employed, with each drive unit tuned somewhat differently to achieve optimal performance when starting up, but also during flexible acceleration.
Because the electrical system, including the battery, is based on the iX50 model, it employs one of the largest batteries on the market to date, with a capacity of 111.5 kWh, of which 105.2 kWh is utilized.
It can be charged using either a DC fast charger with a power rating of up to 200 kW or a built-in three-phase AC charger with a basic power rating of 11 kW and an optional power rating of up to 22 kW.
The most powerful version of the iX model is fundamentally built on previous versions of the iX, so the exterior and interior are essentially the same. It is, however, supplemented on the outside by a distinctive titanium-bronze line running from the A-pillar to the rear area under the windows, M insignia, and the previously mentioned blue brake calipers. Non-standard door handles with a very functional design will catch the eye.
The inside is identical to that of the standard model. Control elements made of crystals are also available here, as are the center panel and displays. The adjustments can be found in the infotainment system.
It offers communication with 5th-generation networks for the first time, as well as expanded functions for automated driving and parking. We didn't get a chance to investigate its intricacies in depth during our brief testing, but there are a lot of visible changes and new features.
The power of a pair of electric motors, which propels the car from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds, is quite astounding, especially given the vehicle's size and weight. The automobile pulls you into the seats and holds you there until you let go of the gas pedal. However, due to the extremely accurate power regulation, the car does not veer or skid.
The car drives really well and has good driving qualities. The switchable set of BMW IconicSounds Electric noises, exclusively designed for the M version by the well-known composer Hans Zimmer, enhances the driving experience.
The overall impression of the vehicle is excellent and it will certainly make its owners very happy.
