BTS's Suga tested positive for covid-19

Suga, one of the seven members of the successful K-Pop boy band BTS, has tested positive for covid-19 and remains isolated with no symptoms for the time being, the group's record company Big Hit Music announced today.

The positive result was found out about today, Friday, after Suga, whose real name is Min Yoon-gi, underwent a PCR test the day before when he landed in South Korea from the United States.

In November the band gave four concerts in the US, where they also received the artist of the year award at this year's American Music Awards (AMA).

After the gala and the recitals, four of its members (RM, V and J-hope, in addition to Suga) decided to stay a few more weeks in the United States.

“Suga received the second dose of the covid-19 vaccine at the end of August and has no symptoms to this day. At the moment, self-care is being administered at home in accordance with the regulations of the health authorities,” Big Hit said in a statement.

Suga, 28, had "tested negative in the PCR test he underwent before traveling from the US and began his quarantine (currently mandatory for anyone entering South Korea) after undergoing the PCR test upon his return to Korea.”, explains the note, which adds that he has not had contact with other members of the band.

The group consisting of RM, Jimin, V, Suga, Jin, J-Hope, and Jungkook held four concerts in Los Angeles at the end of November, their first performances with an audience since late 2019.

BTS also announced a face-to-face concert in Seoul for next March, which it would be their first performance in their country in more than two years, provided that the pandemic allows it.

South Korean BTS swept the American Music Awards

The South Korean band BTS swept the American Music Awards by winning in the three categories for which they competed, including the most important of the night, which awards the artist of the year.

South Koreans were the main protagonists of the gala, held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles (USA), as they also won the award for best group and best pop song for “Butter”, they performed on two occasions, one of them along with the British Coldplay.

"This is a miracle. Seriously, we will never take it for granted, ” said RM, a member of BTS, a group originally from South Korea that has an impressive fan club around the world, known as Army.

The American Music Awards (abbreviated as AMAs) serve as a prelude to the prestigious Grammys, although with the differences that are determined by a popular poll directed at music consumers, rather than being voted on by industry experts.

Among the honors also stood out the name of the Rappers Doja Cat  and Megan Thee Stallion, who won three awards each, including the best R&B artist and best rapper, respectively.

Taylor Swift, meanwhile, won the award for best pop singer for the seventh time in her career and her album "Evermore" was awarded the title of best pop album.

Swift is the artist with the most AMAs in history, with a total of 34 victories.

Finally, the great favorite of the night, Olivia Rodrigo, only got one award out of the seven to which she aspired, the new artist of the year.
