Celine Dion explained the reason for the cancellation of the world tour
Celine Dion, the singing diva we will be able to hear live in 2024, has disclosed the reason for the postponement and cancellation of the performances.
Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological condition, was diagnosed in her.
Celine recounted how the illness caused her to have difficulty walking and singing, forcing her to cancel her scheduled 2023 UK and European tour.
"I've been dealing with health problems for a long time," said Celine, "it was really hard for me to face these challenges and talk about everything I've been through."
One in a million persons suffer from this syndrome. The illness, according to Celine, "affects every area of her everyday life, sometimes creating trouble when she walks and not allowing her to use her vocal cords and sing the way she's used to."
Celine Dion, whose Oscar-winning ballad "My Heart Will Go On" from the Titanic soundtrack won the best song in 2014, revealed in 2014 that she was putting her career on pause "indefinitely" while her husband René Angélil battled cancer.
Although her performances continued for a year, she left the stage again in early 2016, following the untimely deaths of Angélil and her brother Daniel Dion. In 2019, she made a comeback with the release of her studio album "Courage," on which she collaborated with Sia, Sam Smith, and David Guetta.
The diva promoted her album with a globe tour, much of which had to be rescheduled owing to the Covid pandemic. Celine had to cancel her gigs this year due to "severe and persistent muscular spasms," which also put her Las Vegas residency on hold.
Several of those gigs have since been rescheduled, including evenings in Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, and London, while others have been canceled.
Celine stated that she is "working hard every day with her sports medicine therapist to restore her strength and ability to perform again," but confesses that it is difficult. She went on to say that "the only thing she knows is to sing, and that's what she's done her whole life and what she enjoys the most."
The singer concluded by thanking fans for their support, stating that she had no choice but to concentrate on her health and expressing hope that she is on the "path to recovery."
