Elon Musk dislikes the concept of the metaverse
Elon Musk denounced the concept of the metaverse, which Meta, formerly known as Facebook, claims will replace two-dimensional screens.
Elon Musk is an entrepreneur and business magnate. He is the founder, CEO, and Chief Engineer at SpaceX,early-stage investor, CEO, and Product Architect of Tesla, Inc. He is also the founder of The Boring Company and co-founder of Neuralink and OpenAI. With an estimated net worth of around US$255 billion as of December 2021, Musk is the wealthiest person in the world.
He is very respectful and his opinion about high-tech things is important.
In a new interview with the conservative satirical website The Babylon Bee, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk denounced the concept of the metaverse, which Meta, formerly known as Facebook, claims will replace two-dimensional screens.
Meta Platforms is formerly known as Facebook, is a multinational technology conglomerate based in Menlo Park, California. The company is the parent organization of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, among other subsidiaries. Meta is one of the world's most valuable companies and is considered one of the Big Tech companies in U.S. information technology, alongside Amazon, Google, Apple, and Microsoft. The company generates a substantial share of its revenue from the sale of advertisement placements to marketers.
"Am I now like those people who in 1995 rejected the internet as a fad or something that will never matter?" he asked. “Of course, you can put a TV on your nose, but I’m not sure that means you’re‘ in the metaverse,” he added mockingly. He said that a better alternative is a chip implanted in the brain.
Musk isn’t thrilled with the idea of “having a screen on his face all day and not wanting to ever leave”.
"It seems to me ... No way," he said."It gets embarrassing when this thing is tied to your head all the time. I think we're far from disappearing into the metaverse," he added.
Musk says there is a better alternative: a chip surgically implanted in the brain, developed by Neuralink, of which he is a co-founder.
“In the long run, a sophisticated Neuralink could completely, utterly put you in a virtual reality thing,” he said.
"Web3 is more marketing than reality"
Even Meta’s vice president of global affairs and communications, Nick Clegg, recently admitted that they still have to work on the technology needed for the metaverse.
"These poor virtual reality glasses are too bulky for me to drink coffee without moving them," Clegg told the Financial Times in a recent interview.
Musk also criticized Web3, the concept of democratizing the Internet by rebuilding it around blockchain technology. He told Web3 in an interview with Babylon Bee that it was "more marketing than reality".
"I don't understand. That is, I still don't understand, let's put it this way," Musk added.
As we said, currently, the richest person in the world is Elon Musk. Since the start of the pandemic, his fortune has grown brutally and, according to the latest figures from Bloomberg, now weighs an incredible $ 236 billion.
The comparison with two other ultra-rich people worth more than 100 billion dollars – Warren Buffett and Bill Gates – shows the big numbers. Namely, the wealth of Elon Musk is greater than the wealth of Buffett and Gates combined. Buffett is in tenth place on the list of the rich and his fortune is estimated at 103 billion dollars, while Gates is in fourth place with 130 billion dollars.
