Fans booed Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd released a special 50th-anniversary box set reissue of their landmark album "The Dark Side of the Moon" last week. The album cover from 1973 depicts a prism refracting light to create a rainbow of colors.

As their official Facebook profile photo, the band used an updated version of the cover. It contains a prism containing the number 50. The rainbow colors found on the original album cover are used to fill the number 0 in.

However, some fans misinterpreted the new profile photo as an endorsement of the LGBTQ+ movement and were offended by what they saw as a "woke" move.

"Put away the rainbow, you look stupid," one wrote, while another said he would never listen to Pink Floyd again.

"Is there a straight flag? I want equal representation, don't get me wrong, we should all be true to who we are".

Pink Floyd's classic "The Dark Side of the Moon" was planned to feature Paul McCartney...

In response, a number of other fans mocked the fury, with one commenter writing: "I assumed it was a joke and had to see for myself. Do people really have temper tantrums over the rainbow, which was ALWAYS present on that classic cover? ".

Another was added: "When you get upset about the rainbow that has always been the Pink Floyd insignia, you know you're a homophobe. It emanates from the triangle and signifies the beginning of life as well as all of life's courses and influences."

Some couldn't resist joining the fray in a satirical way. "Well done Pink, you just lost another fan. I've been listening to this album for the past 50 years since I bought it at my local record store for 50 cents. I just happened to never look at the album cover".

Another commenter wrote: "I can't believe Pink Floyd woke up. From now on the only classic British acts I listen to are Queen, David Bowie, Elton John, George Michael, Judas Priest, Morrissey, and Rainbow".

Some Pink Floyd fans appear to have taken the lines "We don't need no education" a little too seriously. Gilbert Baker's rainbow flag initially flew as a symbol of queer liberation in a parade in San Francisco in 1978.

Pink Floyd's eighth studio album, The Dark Side of the Moon, was released five years earlier, in 1973, and the cover was designed by Storm Torgerson as a tribute to the band's famed light show performances.

After the 50th anniversary of the album's release, a new box set containing CD and laminated vinyl, as well as Blu-Ray and DVD audio with the original 5.1 mix and restored stereo versions, will be released.

In addition, it will also feature another Blu-Ray disc of the Atmos mix and the CD and LP "The Dark Side Of The Moon - Live At Wembley Empire Pool, London, 1974". On the same day as the box set, the live recording will be released independently on CD and vinyl for the first time as a single album.

A book titled "Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon: 50th Anniversary" will be released on the same day. The book is a collaboration between photographer Jill Furmanowski and the band itself, and it will include rare and never-before-seen pictures from the band's "Dark Side Of The Moon" tour, which took place between 1972 and 1975.
