Few people knew that behind the scenes of Harry Potter there was a real love triangle, and that Emma Thompson ended up with a broken heart

Fans of the Harry Potter film series have dug up numerous details about the background of the filming and the actors in recent years, and the love triangle that took place behind the scenes of one of the most popular film series in history has now surfaced.

Oscar-winner Emma Thompson dated actor and producer Kenneth Branagh long before the filming of Harry Potter, and they both appeared in the popular franchise along with his later girlfriend Helena Bonham Carter.

Emma and Kenneth starred together in several films and got involved on the set and even got married in 1989, but their marriage fell apart in 1995. Kenneth appeared in the popular franchise as Gilderoy Lockhart in the second sequel, while Emma made her debut as Professor Trelawney in the third sequel, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."

Their relationship fell apart in 1995, but rumors circulated that the main culprit was known. The public blamed everything on Helena Bonham Carter, who also appeared in Harry Potter, and was thought to have fallen in love with Kenneth while he was still married to Emma.

The paparazzi first caught them together in 1996, and they were together for three years before they split up. Although Emma had a hard time getting a divorce from her husband, she later recounted how she channeled her pain through the role she had in the hit film “Love Actually ,” which pretty much matched everything she went through in real life.

"Ken broke my heart and most of the scenes from that movie where I was crying I really sincerely cried. I knew very well what it meant to find a necklace bought by a husband that wasn't meant for you," Emma said later in an interview.

All three of them managed to leave the past behind on the set of Harry Potter films and did not even blink when they met on the set. Emma reportedly forgave Helena, whom she later called a beautiful woman. "You can't keep it to yourself forever, it doesn't make sense. You need to let go of all that pain," the actress concluded.

After Kenneth, Thompson found happiness with actor Greg Wise, and the couple has been married for more than 25 years.
