Honda Civic comes with a hybrid drive

Honda has introduced the 11th generation of its popular global compact car, the Civic e: HEV. The all-new Civic hybrid builds on 50 years of history and combines performance and efficiency with greater interior comfort as well as visual appeal.

Equipped with Honda's proven e: HEV hybrid technology, the Civic completes the brand's mission to electrify all of its major models by the end of 2022.

The vehicle has an elegant and sporty silhouette, which has been achieved by reducing the hood line by 25 mm compared to the previous generation, while the glass area has been enlarged to create a bright and airy interior. The lower characteristic line provides a better view from the rear seats.

Despite the new approach to design, the renowned practicality and human thinking of the Civic family remains a key feature. For example, side mirrors are now attached directly to the front doors, helping to reduce unnecessary blind spots and contribute to driver and passenger safety. The Civic is known for being an honest hatchback, and the 11th generation is no exception, as it provides more space and usability than ever before.

The 35 mm longer wheelbase has allowed designers to create more and more comfortable space in the cab, as well as improve dynamic performance and straight-ahead stability. The construction of the tailgate is made of resin material, which is the first time with the Civic model.

The vehicle was developed using new production technology, compared to the previous Civic model, the weight was reduced by 20%, which facilitates opening and closing. In addition, the support hinges have been moved outwards, resulting in a cleaner roofline, but this has also contributed to a sleeker rear design.

Inside, the horizontal style of the dashboard highlights the width of the cab, which in combination with the wider field of view looks airy and open. The interior also benefits from new high-quality materials throughout, including striking details of the metal-honeycomb vents that extend across the width of the dashboard.

In the advanced Advanced class, the driver's display is equipped with a 10.2-inch HD color LCD panel for better visibility. The novelty also offers an intuitive infotainment package. The size of the central touch screen has increased to nine inches and has been moved upwards to minimize eye movement up and down.

The system comes with wireless compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so passengers can connect on the go. In the Elegance and Sports equipment, you will find a multimedia system equipped with eight speakers.

Honda's proven e: HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) technology comes as standard, and its application in the Civic includes the use of a new 72-cell lithium-ion battery and two compact but powerful electric motors working with the newly developed 2-liter direct-drive engine. by injection with the Atkinson cycle.

In combination, the drive system provides a maximum engine power of 135 kW and a torque of 315 Nm. The modernized internal combustion engine has several new elements in its architecture that help to achieve a thermal efficiency of 41%, which is one of the highest values in the automotive industry for the serial road car.

The primary driving force behind the all-new Civic is two powerful electric motors that work together. The engine is controlled by a new compact power control unit located under the hood along with the rest of the powertrain. The latest version of the intelligent powertrain is located under the rear seats, is smaller and lighter, and benefits from increased energy density.

This system provides a feeling of instant torque and strong acceleration, while still offering excellent efficiency. The system can seamlessly switch between EV, hybrid drive, and engine without any driver intervention, and the driver can choose from four driving modes - Eco, Normal, Sport, and the new Individual, which allows separate control of the engine, transmission, and instrument panel display, and adapt to the vehicle's response as needed.

A central feature of the e: HEV system is the fixed transmission, which has been designed to minimize mechanical friction and is controlled by an intelligent power management unit that optimizes the vehicle for every driving situation. The goal of the all-new Civic is to achieve CO emissions2 less than 110 grams per km, which in WLTP tests is less than 5 l / 100 km.

The 11th-generation Civic features a 35mm longer wheelbase and wider rear-wheelbase compared to its predecessor, helping to deliver better forward and cornering performance, while new low-friction ball joints and a revised front shock absorber improve dynamic feel. The new Civic will also be the first model to use a newly designed body structure to stabilize the front seats, giving passengers more stability and comfort.

The novelty also includes an extended set of advanced safety features and driver assistants, the SENSING system from Honda. The new 100-degree front wide-angle camera and advanced recognition technology enhance the Civic's ability to identify pedestrians, roads, borders, and other vehicles, including motorcycles and cyclists.

For the first time, the all-new Civic is equipped with sonar sensors - four at the front and four at the rear. In addition to an improved collision mitigation brake system, Lane Keeping Assist, and i-ACC Civic technology, it also features new additions to a comprehensive range of active safety, blind spot information, traffic monitoring, and traffic jam assist.

In addition to new active safety technologies, the overall construction of the vehicle has also been improved, the individual structural elements have been strengthened and the crew has up to 11 airbags at their disposal.

Since its launch in 1972, the Civic has sold more than 27.5 million units in 170 countries.
