Justin Timberlake and Janet Jackson's infamous Super Bowl halftime show is to be examined in the upcoming FX and Hulu's documentary
The New York Times documentary series, which released two exciting episodes about the Britney Spears saga this year, now draws attention to Janet Jackson's performance at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show.
Racism on national TV?
“Malfunction: The Dressing Down of Janet Jackson” will include "rare footage and interviews" with several people who were "were at the helm of the show in Houston on that faithful night" when co-performer Justin Timberlake took off Janet Jackson's leather vest and exposed her breasts on national television.
To make things even worse for Jackson, according to Rolling Stone, CBS required her to make a public apology for the incident.
According to the press release, the show will provide insight from music industry insiders, members of the Jackson family, and NFL leaders in order to "reconstruct the incident that shook the country and explain how it shaped culture in the decades to come."

"In 2004, a cultural war was being prepared when the audience at the Super Bowl halftime saw a white man exposing a black woman's breasts in a split second," the announcement reads. "A national scandal ensued ... The woman was Janet Jackson, and her career was never the same. The man was Justin Timberlake; his fame only grew."

The New York Times will eventually examine "the racial and cultural currents that collided on the Super Bowl scene," documenting how the appearance at the Super Bowl affected Jackson's career.
Two previous shows have renewed interest in the Britney Spears case, prompting fans to call out Timberlake for his behavior toward ex-girlfriend Britney Spears and co-performer Janet Jackson in the past.
Timberlake's answer
Timberlake dealt with the negative reactions in February. "I saw messages, tags, comments, and concerns and I want to respond," he wrote on social media.
"I am deeply sorry for the time in my life when my actions contributed to the problem, where I said what was not right, or I did not say what was right. I understand that I was wrong at this time and in many others, which has benefited from a system that approves of misogyny and racism, " the singer said.

Timberlake added: "I especially want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson because I care and respect these women and I know that I let them down."
