Kidman struggled with depression after divorce

Actor diva Nicole Kidman revealed that she suffered from depression while filming "Hours" in which she played British Oscar-winning actress Virginia Woolf. A lot of things then, almost two decades ago, coincided with today's 54-year-old actress. That was because Kidman accepted that role just after her divorce from Tom Cruise in 2001, so she says she was then like a sponge absorbing the thoughts of the suicidal character she played.

The movie portrayed the famous author’s struggle with mental health while writing “Mrs. Dalloway,” as well as her suicide by drowning in the Ouse River in 1941. It was a scene that Kidman insisted on filming on her own, without a stuntwoman.

Speaking in an interview about that scene in the "Hours", Kidman said: "I don't know if I ever thought it was dangerous, I believe I was completely in my character. I put stones in my pockets and walked into the river. And so over and over again. I probably didn't even think it might be risky. ".

Reflecting on her own emotions at the time, the actress added that she was not depressed at all at the time, but completely in the character and scene.

“So, Virginia’s ideas, thoughts, flowed through me, just at the moment when I was completely open to such reflections. And I think Stephen, who was the movie director, was very gentle with me because he knew it. I’m completely open to being able to understand the character I’m portraying, but that’s ultimately also the beauty of the acting life, ” Kidman said.

The “Hours” in which Kidman starred alongside Meryl Streep and Julianne Moore brought her an Oscar for Best Actress, but she obviously earned that golden statuette in an emotionally very difficult way.

Today, she calls her mental state at the time an experience that life brings and because of which she feels far more experienced because she went through that phase.

Because of that, but also other things, she started to look at life differently, to grow as a person, and she intends to do so as her age progresses.

Kidman interpreted Woolf in 2002, just a year after her divorce from colleague Tom Cruise with whom she had been married for 11 years. The couple adopted two children, daughter Isabella (29) and son Connor (26). In an interview she gave ten years ago to, she admitted that she had a very hard time with the divorce and that she was facing depression, which she eventually overcame.

Today, she is married to musician Keith Urban, with whom she has two biological children, and later admitted that the fact that she could not conceive with Cruise contributed to her depression. She thought then that she would never be able to give birth after the infertility treatment failed, and she also had several miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies. The actress has always dreamed of a big family. The 54-year-old actress is the star of the cover of the new issue of Marie Claire Australia magazine, for which she opened up and confessed about her career and the desire to have more children.
