Legendary actor Ed Asner has passed away
He passed away at the age of 91, his family confirmed on Twitter.
Legendary actor Ed Asner, who became famous for his roles in the sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show and the films Elf and Heaven, has died at the age of 91, his family confirmed on Twitter.
"We are sorry to have to inform you that our beloved father passed away this morning. Good night, Dad," they wrote.
He has won seven Emmys and was the first to win awards in the drama and comedy categories for portraying the same character.
In the 2000s, Asner enjoyed the second wave of his long career. He played Santa Claus in the 2003 film Elf, and six years later gave voice to the character of Carl Fredricksen in the animated film Heaven.
Just a few days ago, Asner talked in an interview about the fall of Kabul and the possibility of recalling California Governor Gavin Newsom.
"Afghanistan is a terrible failure for Biden, although he is certainly not guilty. He has only been on duty for six months, for God's sake! It is a pity," Asner said.
We are sorry to say that our beloved patriarch passed away this morning peacefully. Words cannot express the sadness we feel. With a kiss on your head- Goodnight dad. We love you. — Ed Asner (@TheOnlyEdAsner) August 29, 2021
