Legendary Maya Bay is reopened for the public!
The legendary bay from the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio reopened to the public. We all remember the young DiCaprio from the movie "The beach", and the wonderful scenes from Thailand where the film was shot.
We all remember the young DiCaprio from the movie "The Beach" back in 2000. And we remember the wonderful scenes from Thailand where the film was shot. The Thai island of Ko Phi Phi Le is the setting for the film, and the legendary Maya Bay has become extremely popular with visitors from around the world after being used as one of the main filming locations. In 2018, authorities had to close it to the public due to excessive tourist visits that affected the island’s ecosystem. In other words, tourism almost destroyed them. The beach was originally closed from June to September, during the monsoon season in Thailand, to give the reefs time to recover. The authorities subsequently decided to close it by 2021 to give the entire ecosystem more time to recover.
Maya Bay attracted tourists thanks to its cult status and spectacular white sand and crystal clear water. As a strong candidate for the most beautiful places in Thailand, the beach is only accessible by boat from nearby Phuket or Krabi. The reopening of the bay comes after new infrastructure around the bay. It was discovered last year by the Thai Tourist Board. This includes a new pier in Loh Samah Bay on the opposite side of the island. The only way to take tourists to visit the famous bay is by boat. This ensures the continued recovery of coral reefs in the area. The number of daily visitors will be monitored to protect the environment, and places, where swimming is allowed, will be determined.
Also, local authorities have planted a new coral reef area, as well as more trees in an attempt to combat coastal erosion.
Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Varawut Silpa-Archa told CNN: “Maya Bay is continuously attracting the interest of tourists from all over the world. But it has also affected the deterioration of natural environmental conditions, especially coral. After the closure of Maya Bay to revive and rebuild its nature, we can say that bay returned to good condition. ” We are happy because of this news and now we have one more 'must visit' destination.
