Love story of Corinna and Michael Schumacher

SCHUMACHER COUPLE'S LOVE STORY: He stole her from another in front of his eyes at a party, and many call him a 'false saint.

Michael Schumacher celebrated his 53rd birthday. His wife Corinna has been accused of hiding him from the public since the accident.

Seven-time Formula One champion Michael Schumacher celebrates his 53rd birthday on Monday. Nine years have passed since the skiing accident in the French Alps where he was seriously injured, and Michael has not been seen in public since.

He spent six months in a coma, and after leaving the hospital he is treated at home. A team of doctors took care of his health, and his wife Corinna Schumacher, 52, was forced to sell the property again so she could pay for the expensive treatment Michael needed to stay alive. She has sold the villa in Switzerland, as well as Michael's luxury Mercedes.

Last year, a Netflix documentary was released in which the family talked about Michael's glittering career, but they didn't touch too much on his health.

'We live together in our home, we carry out therapies, we do everything we can to make Michael better and to feel the solidarity of our family. I miss that Michael every day and not just me, the kids miss him, the family, his father, everyone around him. But Michael is there, different, but he's there and it gives us all strength,' Corinna said at the time.

The only thing that's known is that Michael can sit and communicate with his eyes. His former manager Willi Weber has previously accused Corinna of hiding Michael from the world and not providing any information about his health. He insinuated that she was deliberately hiding something and didn't want anyone to know the truth.

However, former Ferrari boss Jean Todt had nothing but praise for her last year.

'I've spent a lot of time with Corinna since his injury on December 29, 2013. She's a great woman and she leads the whole family. She didn't expect it to be like this, it all happened so fast and she just didn't have a choice.

But she's doing well, I trust her, and she trusts me. Thanks to doctors and cooperation with Corinna, who wanted him to survive - he survived, but with consequences. And now they're grappling with those consequences. We hope things will slowly but surely improve,' Todt said.

Michael and Corinna's love story began in 1991 when he was at the beginning of his Formula One career. They met at a party where Corinna was brought by her then-boyfriend, German motoring ace Heinz-Harald Frentzen.

Corinna soon ended her relationship with him and started dating Michael. At first, it was rumored that their relationship was just a marketing ploy, but it soon became clear that this was not the case. Michael first became world champion in 1994.

He repeated the same success in 1995 and married Corinna in August. The couple had two children, their daughter Gina-Marie was born in 1997 and their son Mick in 1999.

Michael has always kept his personal life out of the spotlight, and Corinna has also never liked to stand out in public and has given only a few interviews in all these years. She devoted herself entirely to her famous husband and his needs.

The married couple invested the money in real estate and ranches. In Texas and Switzerland, they built a specialized horse training ranch. Everything seemed idyllic until that fatal accident at the end of December 2013.
