Meghan Markle gave birth to a baby girl!
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry, and his wife Meghan Markle have announced the birth of their second child, a baby girl.
According to the BBC, Lilibet "Lily" Diana Mountbatten-Windsor was born on Friday at 11.40 local time, in a hospital in Santa Barbara, California, USA. The girl weighed three kilograms and 487 grams.
Both mother and the baby are healthy and well, the couple said in a statement.
They added that their daughter was named Lilibet after the royal family's nickname for the queen, the baby's great-grandmother. The middle name Diana was chosen by the happy parents after the baby's "beloved late grandmother", the Princess of Wales, it is stated in the announcement.
The baby is the 11th great-granddaughter of the queen and the eighth in line for the throne.
"On June 4, we are blessed with the arrival of our daughter Lily. She is more than we ever imagined and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we have felt from all over the world. Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this special period for our family, ” the couple wrote in a thank-you note on their Archewell website.
Prince Harry, and Meghan, had their first child, a boy, on May 6, 2019, before they resigned from their royal duties and moved to the United States. This meant that they would no longer use royal titles and would not receive money from public funds to perform royal duties, as Buckingham Palace announced at the time.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex also stated that they intend to return 2.4 million pounds - which is how much the renovation of the Frogmore residence cost and it was paid for with taxpayers' money. This house in Windsor remained their family home in Great Britain. The couple no longer formally represents the queen, and the new arrangement came into force in the spring of last year.
Harry, the 36-year-old grandson of Queen Elizabeth, and 39-year-old Meghan, a former actress from the USA, got married in May 2018.
