"In those years, those from the north were considered more sophisticated. But we from the south had the courage to break down barriers. Gianni loved women and did not want to see them in gray, he wanted them to express their personality," said Donatella Versace, adding that it cost him, "El Pais" reported.

"There was etiquette in fashion, a word that never existed for the Versace family. Bad taste is better than etiquette because even if you must negotiate, it is freedom," she believes.

She reminded of the obstacles that her brother, who marked the nineties and who was killed in 1997, encountered at the beginning.

"The first years in Milan were very difficult. There were ladies there and Gianni was criticized. He was told that he makes clothes for prostitutes. I told him not to worry because he made clothes for women who are not afraid of their own femininity, "said Donatella Versace.

In fact, the term "clothes for prostitutes" comes from another Italian giant that Donatella has already faced - Giorgio Armani. But in an interview in 2015, Armani demystified an urban legend according to which he told Versace that he made such clothes, but explained that it was not like that, but quite the opposite.

"I never criticized his style," Armani said at the time.

"We saw each other on the Spanish Steps in Rome, at a fashion show. We were watching the parade when he told me: "I dress prostitutes, you dress the ladies who go to Mass," Armani added.

However, that did not meet with the approval of Donatella six years ago, who criticized Armani for talking about her brother because he could not answer him. The designer angrily said that when her brother talked about fashion, "the only words that came out of his mouth was glamour".
