Robbie Williams donated to health services
Robbie Williams sold two of Banksy’s artwork and donated all of the proceeds to healthcare. This humanitarian gest was a big surprise.
Two works by the mysterious British artist Banksy owned by singer Robbie Williams (48) are sold for several million pounds at auction in London and the money will be donated to British health services. This is such a humanitarian act that will help a lot of people.
The canvas "Destroyed Oil (Helicopters)", which depicts two military helicopters in low flight with a pastoral idyll, was sold for 4.4 million British pounds. The work, which auction house Sotheby’s described as “anti-war”, was originally valued at £ 2.5 million and £ 3.5 million.
The picture is reminiscent of the 1979 film about the Vietnam War "Apocalypse Now" when American helicopters attack enemy positions with the sounds of Richard Wagner. In the auction catalog, Sotheby's wrote that the painting reflected Banksy's opposition to the second war in Iraq when he handed out posters drawn at the 2003 London protests.
Another Bansky owned by the singer "Girl with a Balloon", painted with spray paint on metal, sold for just over 2.8 million pounds, which was its estimated value. Williams acquired it directly from the elusive graffiti painter in 2006. The painting is one of his most famous works, depicting a young girl holding her hand outstretched towards a red heart-shaped ball. Bansky made this motif in different versions and materials. The partial cut-out version of “Love is in the Bucket” was sold at Sotheby’s last October for a staggering £ 18.58 million which is a record for the British artist. The artwork was purchased three years earlier for a fraction of the price, but its value rose after a while when it went through a couple of auctions in front of stunned people.
