Rapper Snoop Dogg and singer Kelly Clarkson will host the new American Song Contest, an upcoming adaptation of the Eurovision Song Contest.

The competition will be shown on the American network NBC. The show starts in March, and the grand finale is scheduled for May 9th, 2022. Performers, soloists, duets or groups from all fifty US states, the Washington Capital area and the five associated US territories will participate.

“I am honored to host the America’s Song Contest with my sister Kelly Clarkson”, Snoop Dogg said in a written statement to the media.Snoop Dogg already has some experience, since he was previously a mentor on NBC’s show ‘The Voice’ in the 20th season. Kelly Clarkson is the winner of the first release of American Idol in 2002, which has developed into one of America’s most successful singers, with two Grammys and millions of albums sold.

''I’m a big fan of the Eurovision concept and I’m thrilled that this musical phenomenon is coming to America,” she said. "I'm excited to be working with Snoop Dogg and I can't wait to see what every state and territory prepared for the audience.''

One of the biggest TV events in the world

Eurovision is definitely one of the biggest television events in the world. "Imagine that music is an Olympic sport and that competitors from all over the world gather for a gold medal competition. That is Eurovision." American Song Contest producer Anders Lenhoff said in a statement.

"American Song Contest is a competition that will be shown on television, but this is not a competition created just to become a television show. It will be open to all musicians, whether they are amateurs or already have a contract with a record label. No one is excluded," he said. We are eagerly waiting to see what did they prepare for us.

Recall, this year's Eurovision Song Contest will be held in Turin, after the Italian rock band Måneskin won in 2021 with their song 'Zitti E Buoni'. Their victory was watched by 7.8 million television audiences on BBC One in the UK, making it the most-watched final since 2014.
