Djokovic: I would rather sacrifice trophies than be forced to get vaccinated
Novak Djokovic, the best tennis player in the world, claimed he would rather give up future tennis titles than being forced to get the covid-19 vaccination. Djokovic remarked in an interview that he should not be identified with the anti-vaccination movement, but that he respects the freedom of individuals to make their own decisions.
When asked if he would miss Wimbledon and Roland Garros because of his opinion on the vaccination, Djokovic replied, "Yes, that is the price I am ready to pay."
He said that he has never been against vaccination, but he has always supported the freedom of choice of what you put in your body.
Djokovic hopes that the conditions related to vaccination at certain tournaments will change and that he hopes that "he will be able to play for many more years".
The winner of 20 Grand Slam titles has confirmed that he is ready to give up the chance to become the statistically greatest tennis player of all time.
He said that the principles of making decisions about his body are more important than any title or anything else.
Djokovic stated that he has always been an exceptional student of well-being, health, and nutrition and that his choice was influenced in part by the fact that factors including diet and sleep improved his athletic performance.
He said that he is "keeping his mind open" to the prospect of getting vaccinated in the future, "since collectively we are trying to find the greatest possible approach to stop this disease."
Djokovic added that he has never been against vaccination. He understands that globally everyone is trying to make great efforts to fight this virus to see, hopefully, it will end soon.
About a positive test and detention in Australia
Novak said he recognized that people come up with different ideas about why his positive test on covid-19 occurred.
He said that no one is happy to get a covid. Millions of people have and are still battling coronavirus around the world. That is why he takes it very seriously.
Djokovic says he was sad and disappointed with the way it all ended in Australia.
“It wasn’t easy,” he said.
Djokovic emphasized that the mistake that happened while filling out the visa application was not intentional and that the Federal Court and the Minister of Australia's Ministry of Immigration agreed and verified it.
Most people are unaware that he was not deported from Australia because he had not been immunized, had not breached any laws, or had made an error on his visa application.
The reason why he was deported from Australia is that the Minister of Immigration used his discretion to cancel his visa.
The best tennis player in the world was deported before the Australian Open after a federal court confirmed the government's decision to cancel his visa, explaining that Djokovic's refusal to be vaccinated against the coronavirus puts the country in danger.
