Ncuti, who plays the character of Eric Effiong in the popular series, revealed that he was so poor that he had to borrow money from friends and acquaintances to be able to audition. He also had to borrow money for things like sewing costumes or paying for transportation.
The actor and his family left war-torn Rwanda and moved to Scotland. Although Ncuti's family managed to avoid war, he could not avoid bullying at school because of his skin color. His savings did not last long and he soon became homeless, but he points out that he was lucky that his friends allowed him to sleep on their couches.
‘About five months before‘ Sex Education ’I mostly slept in other people’s living rooms, I didn’t have a roof over my head. I was very lucky to have friends, otherwise, I would have been on the street ', Ncuti revealed on one occasion.
