The positive influence of the sea on our health
It has been scientifically proven that seawater contains a whole range of essential minerals important for our health.
Centuries before, staying on the beach in the summer months became popular. Living by the sea was a warm recommendation for improving health, and mood, strengthening immunity and treating the respiratory tract. Among others, silver, gold, uranium, zinc, phosphorus, iodine, iron, potassium, magnesium, calcium, silicon and other elements can be found. Therefore, it is never superfluous to repeat how beneficial the influence of the sea is on our mood and psyche. The father of medicine, Hippocrates, was one of the first to notice this, noting that the sea helped fishermen prevent infections and regenerate the skin on injured hands. The sea was also sung in numerous songs, and Greek and Roman poets and philosophers were among the first to do so. Plato claimed that the sea washes away all our ailments, Euripides that it restores our health, and the Roman physician Galen wrote about the healing sea air.
In the 19th century, the doctor Claude La Bonnardière invented thalassotherapy - a method of treatment with seawater and air. It didn't take long and wealthier Austrians started coming to sea (especially if they were suffering from tuberculosis).
The positive influence of the sea and marine climate has developed some other treatment models - climatotherapy and hydrotherapy. Namely, clean sea water promotes the exchange of minerals and toxins between the body and water. The sea air contains negative ions and ozone that encourage deep breathing and fill us with vital energy. It is known that negative ions strengthen immunity, improve concentration, reduce insomnia, depression, headache and fatigue, improve libido, and in combination with the sea, detoxify, help with skin problems and have a positive effect on thyroid health.
Unfortunately, health problems with this small gland that regulates many functions in the body are becoming more common, especially in women, and sea air and water that contain iodine contribute to health. There is also precious vitamin D, the positive effect of which has been increasingly talked about in recent years, especially in the context of the coronavirus pandemic. In addition, living by the sea enhances creativity, imagination, intuition, a feeling of carelessness and relief that everything in life can be solved.
