What are all the benefits of being in nature?

Nature heals, soothes, connects... Everything we see, hear, and experience every moment when we are in nature not only affects our mood but also our nervous, endocrine, and immune systems.

The average person spends at least 5 hours a day in front of the screen. These include watching TV, working on a computer, playing video games, and browsing on a smartphone. This addiction can become so strong that the individual even stops leaving the house for several days.

Experts point out that being in nature is very important because it affects not only our mental health but also our physical health. People who live near green areas and spend a lot of time in nature are expected to have fewer health problems and live longer, and nature helps them cope with life's adversities, the conclusion of many studies that have dealt with this topic. Japanese researchers even found that people who live near forests have a much lower incidence of lung, prostate, colon, and uterine cancer.

On the other hand, various studies have shown that spending time in front of the screen is associated with fatigue, depression, anxiety, and poor concentration.

How does nature heal everything?

  • Fresh air in nature strengthens our immune system;
  • In nature, we are more exposed to the sun's rays and thus to the beneficial effect of vitamin D;
  • A study published in the journal Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin showed that if we are surrounded by nature, we are more caring towards others;
  • The sounds of nature also affect our well-being. They calm us down, have a positive effect on the heart, and regulate hormones, according to Professor Josh Smith from Penn State University. He suggests spending 20 minutes a day in nature;
  • When we spend time alone in nature, it not only improves creativity but also mental health;
  • It is good to go to nature even when we are faced with a problem that we cannot solve;
  • Walking in nature can also increase our motivation;
  • Numerous studies have shown that going out into nature slows down the occurrence of myopia in those who have a predisposition to be short-sighted, especially in children;
  • And exercising in nature is better than indoors.

These are just some of the reasons why you should be in nature as often as possible, but they are certainly not the only ones. If you want to do yourself and your health a favor, we advise you to sit at home as little as possible and be outside as much as possible, preferably surrounded by greenery.
