Harry Brant was the model and son of Peter Brant and his wife, supermodel Stephanie Seymour. He died at the age of 24 from the consequences of an overdose. Harry and his older brother Peter Brant II became regular visitors to the red carpet in the early 2010s, at the forefront of a trend that brought a number of supermodel children, such as Kaie Gerber and Sailor Brinkley Cook, to the catwalk.
In 2015, Harry made his debut on the runway, walking for Balmain. The brothers also collaborated on two unisex makeup collections with MAC cosmetics.
He was born in 1996, a year after his parents got married at a ceremony in a French village. Seymour, one of Victoria’s Secret’s first angels, wore a dress designed by Azzedine Alaïa, and Naomi Campbell was the bridesmaid. Their father, CEO of White Birch Paper and owner of various magazines, including Interview, grew up in Queens and was a childhood friend of Donald Trump.
Although the brothers were close and often came in a ‘package’, Harry once said he thought their style wasn’t too similar. ‘When I really started doing fashion, I had, and still have, that obsession with mostly women’s clothing,’ he said. 'I think I just fell in love with the idea of how iconic fashion is - especially the way it used to be.'
He later told Vogue that he did not like the way he came out in the interview. ‘I speak in a very sarcastic tone and most people know they don’t take my wanderings too seriously, but it has created a nasty reputation that has been hard to shake,’ he said. 'That little Lord Fauntleroy thing doesn't represent who I am.' he added.
Harry also shared his parents ’passion for contemporary art. ‘When I was growing up, Dad took me through our house once a month and asked me what the name of each artist of each painting was,’ he revealed in 2014. ‘If I remember correctly, I would get a dollar. every time I guessed. I appreciate it now because I can walk through museums and immediately recognize the works and styles of artists.'
According to sources, Harry attended Bard College but he did not graduate. He started writing an Interview column called ‘Appearance’. In 2020, he returned to the pages of the magazine, in collaborations with Marc Jacobs, Kenny Scharf and his own mother Stephanie.
After his death was announced, big fashion names said goodbye to him on Instagram, including designers Robert Cavalli and Olivier Theyskens, models Lexi Boling and Karen Elson, and stylist Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele.
'He has achieved a lot in his 24 years, but we will never have a chance to see how much more Harry could have done,' his family said in a statement. 'We will forever be sad that this devastating plague has ruined his life.'. Harry had reportedly struggled with addiction for several years. 'He wasn't just our son. He was also a wonderful brother, grandson, favorite uncle and caring friend. He was a creative soul, full of love and light that he brought to the hearts of many people. He was a really beautiful person, inside and out, ' they said.
