Who will walk the red carpet in Venice this year

From actresses Penelope Cruz, Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, and many others who will walk the red carpet, to directors Darren Aronofsky, Alejandro Inarritu, and Luca Guadagnino who will present new films, this year's 79th Venice Film Festival will, judging by everything, be spectacular.

In the race for the prestigious Golden Lion for the best film at the famous Mostra, which takes place from August 31 to September 10, 23 films will compete. The president of the jury is actress Julianne Moore. This year's festival is conceived as a "window open to the world", Mostra artistic director Alberto Barbera said in an online presentation.

France is particularly well represented this year with as many as five productions in the competition, and the film "No Bears’ by Jafar Panahi, who has to serve a six-year sentence in Iran for "propaganda against the regime", will be shown.

Slovak, Czech, Polish, Romanian, Macedonian, Bulgarian, Slovenian, Croatian, and Bosnian-Herzegovinian production films were selected for the "Orizzonti" selection. French director and writer Florian Zeller presents the film “ The Son”, in which the main roles are played by Hugh Jackman, Laura Dern, and Anthony Hopkins.

There will be no shortage of big stars on the Lido red carpet this year either. Spanish actress Penelope Cruz plays the lead role in the Italian film "The immensity" by Emanuele Criallese, while Australian Cate Blanchett plays an orchestra conductor in Todd Field's "Tar".

Darren Aronofsky returns in style with the drama “The Whale” starring Brendan Fraser, who perhaps plays the role of a career. Mexican Alejandro Inarritu will present himself at Mostra with the very personal film "Bardo”, a false chronicle of some truths, while the long-awaited "Bones and all" by Italian Luca Guadagnino has a Hollywood cast, from Timothée Chalamet to Chloe Sevigny.

The British Tilda Swinton plays in the film "The eternal daughter" by Joanna Fogg, and Colin Farrell plays the main role in Martin McDonagh's "The Banshees of Inisherin". Much is expected from the film "Blonde" by Andrew Dominik, about the life of Marilyn Monroe starring Ana de Armas and Adrien Brody.

Among the Hollywood titles out of contention is the psychological thriller "Don't Worry Darling," Olivia Wilde's second directorial effort, starring Florence Pugh and Harry Styles.
