Golden Globes: Austin Butler and Michelle Yeoh named best actors
According to Reuters, young movie star Austin Butler and veteran actress Michelle Yeoh won the main film awards at the Golden Globes event, and Hollywood once again acknowledged the award that was thrown off television due to a scandal.
Butler was honored as the best actor in a motion picture drama for his depiction of rock superstar Elvis Presley, and he appeared overcome with emotion as he accepted the award in front of many of the industry's biggest personalities.
“I'm in this room with all my heroes. I can't believe I'm here,” Butler said, giving Brad Pitt and Quentin Tarantino special mention.
After her name was called, Yeoh, who won the prize for her starring part in the dimension-jumping action thriller Everything Everywhere All At Once, came to the stage and declared she was going to "pause and feel this moment," according to Hina.
"Hollywood was a dream come true until I came here," the Malaysian actress of Chinese origin admitted, saying that she was branded a "minority" and asked if she could speak English early in her career.
"Forty years later, I realize it's been an incredible journey and an incredible struggle to be here today, but I think it's been worth it," Yeoh said.
In the dark Irish comedy The Banshees of Inisherin, Colin Farrell won Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical or Comedy for his depiction of Padraic Suilleabhain, a man attempting to restore a shattered friendship.
Angela Bassett won supporting actress for her portrayal of Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, the sequel that was reworked after the loss of star Chadwick Boseman.
"We demonstrated to the world what African-American unity, leadership, and love look like off, behind, and in front of the camera," Bassett said as she accepted her trophy.
Ke Huy Quan received Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for his performance as Waymond Wang in Everything, Everything, Everywhere.
The Fabelmans, a coming-of-age film based on Steven Spielberg's own adolescence, won the award for best motion picture drama.
The story of feuding friends on an Irish island, Banshees of Inisherin, received the prize for best motion film musical or comedy.
Celebrities and NBC have withdrawn from the 2022 Golden Globes due to ethical failures by the awards organization, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).
A larger, more diverse membership and other improvements to the HFPA have persuaded many of Hollywood's greatest movie and television stars to support this year's gala, which provides winners and nominees prominence and often enhances their chances of winning Hollywood's most prestigious prize, the Oscars.
