Did Jack have to die in "Titanic"
James Cameron prepares the proof and the final answer.
Did Jack Dawson (as played by Leonardo DiCaprio) die needlessly in the film " Titanic " by refusing to climb the wooden door with his beloved Rose (Kate Winslet)?
Fans have long speculated whether Jack could have climbed the wooden door and avoided a spectacular hypothermic drowning after the ship sank.
James Cameron, the film's director, sought to present a final solution because he was tired of the endless dispute.
Cameron reminded everyone on the promotional tour for his upcoming film "Avatar: The Way of Water" that he always felt Jack had to die due to the drama. After all, it is the North Atlantic's Romeo and Juliet.
Cameron has now revealed to the Toronto Sun that he conducted scientific research to establish "once and for all" that Jack would not have survived even if he had hoisted himself onto the floating door.
- We did a scientific study to retire this whole thing and put a stake in her heart once and for all - Cameron said.
- We did a thorough forensic analysis with a hypothermia expert who recreated the raft from the movie, and we're going to do a little special about it coming out in February.
- We wanted two stuntmen who were the same body mass, Kate and Leo, we put sensors all over them and inside them, and then let them enter the icy water and tested to see if they could survive using various methods. The answer was - there was no way for both of them to survive. Only one could survive.
That finding varies from that reached by MythBusters, a television show that tried the same type of testing in 2012. Their verdict:
"With everything we've learned, I think Jack's death was unnecessary," co-host Jamie Heineman concluded.
Of course, all of that is put aside, as Cameron controlled the story and had a different vision. In his opinion, Jack "should have died".
- It is a film about love and sacrifice and mortality. Love is measured by sacrifice - said Cameron.
He hopes that after February's National Geographic special, along with the 4K theatrical re-releases of "Titanic," the debate will finally die down.
- Maybe, after 25 years, I won't have to deal with this issue anymore - he joked.
